The Via Francigena is a pilgrimage through the very heart of Italy. Starting across the border in Switzerland this incredible trail winds its way down Italy’s spine to finish in Rome. Each region you cross brings its own everchanging scenery: hiking through endless vineyards, lush forests and sun-baked plains, and there is no one who knows the route better than S-Cape.
We have selected the very best sections of the route, only picking those that have the high standard of accommodation and scenery that we demand from our trips. Explore a side to Tuscany, far from the big tourist traps as you follow select parts of the Via Francigena from San Miniato to Buonconvento or a hike with two outstanding Tuscan cities as the bookends, from Lucca to Siena. You can also connect this path up to the next section from Siena to Viterbo. Then, of course, there is the crowning glory as you walk into the ancient capital to finish the whole route, walking from Montefiascone to Rome.
