Level of Difficulty

Each classification has been described in a general way and is over-simplified, so use the level of difficulty just as a guideline and read the extended trip information carefully:

Walking Holidays

Trips with short walks, generally of 2-4 hours (excluding breaks) and/or optional day excursions, on flat or slightly hilly terrain using well-maintained paths.

Moderate day walks of 3-5 hours per day (excluding breaks), in hilly to mountainous areas using well-maintained, sometimes stony paths.

Moderate day walks are interspersed with more strenuous excursions of 4-6 hours per day (excluding breaks), in hilly to mountainous areas using well-maintained, sometimes stony paths.

Trips with strenuous day walks or trekking in mountainous areas, 5-7 hours walking per day, sometimes carrying your rucksack with items for one night, overall ascent/descent of 500 to 1000 metres per day.

Trips with very demanding hikes or trekking through high alpine areas, 6-8 hours walking per day, sometimes carrying your rucksack with items for several nights. Overall ascent/descent of up to 1500 metres per day. Includes trail-running tours.

Cycling Holidays

The cycling routes on these programs are of different levels and it is not easy to give a correct estimation of the overall level of difficulty. It is important to consider a number of factors: the daily distances, wind direction, weather, number of gears on your bike and your own physical condition. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our travel consultants.

Easy cycling on nearly flat terrain, also possible for those with little or no cycling experience. The daily distances are approximately 20-40 km in general. Bicycles with up to 3 gears is suitable. All our adult rental bikes have at least 21 gears.

Cycling on nearly flat to hilly terrain, for the infrequent cyclist. The daily distances vary between 30 and 50 km, and you may encounter a short ascent (of max 200m) from time to time. A bicycle with a minimum of 7 gears is suitable. All our adult rental bikes have at least 21 gears.

Cycling in hilly areas for the fit and frequent cyclist. The daily distances vary between 35 and 65 km, and you will encounter some steep or extended ascents of up to 500m. You will need a bicycle with at least 21 gears.

Demanding cycling in areas where you cannot avoid steep and extended ascents of up to 750 m. Training and cycling experience are required. The daily distances range from 40 to 80 km. You will need a durable bicycle with at least 21 gears..

Serious and strenuous cycling trips in mountainous areas. Slopes are longer and/or steeper than in the previous category and the daily distances range from 50 to 100 km. Excellent physical condition and wide cycling experience are required, as well as an adequate mountain climbing bicycle. Includes racing tours.
