Self-guided Spain Hiking Tours
Spain has three great mountain ranges and within them lie several national parks. However, many people forget that Spain’s islands also have world-class walking in them, with perfect all-year round conditions too.
Most local to our Spanish office are the Picos de Europa, a magnificent wall of limestone peaks seemingly rising straight from the coast of the Bay of Biscay. We offer short breaks, classic 8 day treks or a comprehensive crossing of the entire Picos range.
The Spanish Pyrenees are less visited than their French counterparts which makes them an even more attractive destination in our opinion. Ordesa National Park is the most famous and dramatic destination in the mountain range, but the little known Vall de Boi more than carries its weight, with hundreds of glacier lakes in the Alpine scenery of the Aiguestores National Park.
The Sierra Nevada in Southern Spain is probably the most famous mountain range in Spain and is best known for its iconic hilltop Pueblos Blancos and its Moorish heritage, the latter most fabulously displayed in Granada’s Alhambra.
Don’t underestimate Mallorca and the Canary Islands’ mountainous terrain for some stunning hiking though. Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana hosts the GR122 on 130km of historic mountain tracks while La Gomera, Gran Canaria and La Palma are criss-crossed with Camino Reales now adopted by hikers into fantastic waymarked trails snaking through other-worldly volcanic scenery.
