Start: Caldes de Boí Finish: Caldes de Boí
Today after arriving in Caldes de Boí, you will be taken by taxi to the Cavallers dam. With some basic luggage in your rucksack you start a beautiful walk, first along the Cavallers reservoir and then gradually ascending through an increasingly rocky and barren mountain landscape to the Ventosa i Calvell hut (2215 m). From the hut you can walk a little further, to the glacier lake Estany Gran de Colieto or to the rock wasteland at the foot of the Coll de Contraix. You can continue as far as you want, since you return to the refuge via the same route. Before dinner you have time to take a hot (or cold) shower and prepare your ‘bed’ for tonight: a bunkbed as wide as the rooftop. You only need to take a sheet with you and we recommend some ear plugs. At dinner (included) you are seated at large tables and will enjoy the same set menu as all other guests.
Challenge: 5 km / 3 mi, 3 hrs, 580 m ascent , 135 m descent
After breakfast, you pick up the pack lunch that has been prepared for you. Because the walk back to Caldes de Boí is short, we offer you an alpine hike through the impressive mountain world of Aigüestortes. You walk through a rugged granite landscape along the glacier lakes of Travessani and Estany de Monges to the mountain pass Port de Rius (2475m) and then along the Estany de Mangades to the Port de Colomèrs, from where you look out over the beautiful Cirque de Colomers on the north side of the National park. Then you descend via the same path as yesterday to the reservoir of Cavallers and continue down through the valley to the hotel where you can relax at the outdoor pool or indoor SPA circuit before the dinner.
Challenge: 9 km / 5,5 mi, 4 hrs, 470 m ascent and descent
Plus descent to Caldes de Boí: 9 km / 5,5 mi, 4 hrs, 25 m ascent, 740 m descent
After breakfast, your short break comes to an end.
All rooms in the hotel are en-suite. At the refuge there is a shared dormitory and separate toilets.
* We recommend booking an extra night at the hotel the previous day of the programme, so you are already there to start the hike on Day 1.
Since the inauguration in 1979 the refuge was updated year after year but the changes were always interior, aesthetically the Ventosa seen from outside remained the same. Finally, in 2017 the Center Excursionista de Catalunya together with the guards decided to take a step forward to improve the comfort of users and guards of the refuge by providing hot showers and more services. Sleeping facilities are a bunkbed as wide as the rooftop. You only need to take a sheet with you and we recommend some ear plugs. At dinner (included) you are seated at large tables and will enjoy the same set menu as all other guests.
The emblematic construction of this hotel follows the canons of the mountain architecture, offering maximum comfort thanks to the constant improvements and updates in its facilities. The proximity to the Thermal Center is such that there is the possibility of accessing it from the hotel itself without having to go outside. An ideal hotel to enjoy healthy and family stays with the Boí Valley at your fingertips to savor its culture, its people and its excellent cuisine.
You can start on any day of the week, subject to availability, from May to October.
