On some occasions there are optional opportunities for climbing local peaks; these are obviously more difficult trails, suitable only for experienced mountain hikers.

Day 2:    Roundtrip from Plätzwiese via the Strudelkopf or via Stollaplatz (8km/5mi)

Today you can choose among several hiking itineraries. You can climb of the Strudelkopf (2307m) with excellent views on the Drei Zinnen or go for a tour through the rolling Stollaplatz and Stolla-Alm. Or you can do either walks because they are relatively short.

Challenge: 2/ 2.5 hours, 6 - 8 km / 4 - 5 mi, 350m/ 250m ascent, 350m/ 250m descent

Day 3:    From Plätzwiese to Sennes (21.3 km / 13 mi)

After breakfast you start the today’s walk with a descent via the spectacular Val dei Canope to Cimabanche. After a short walk along the road you climb through Val de Gotres towards Forcella Lerosa, a meadow plateau surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks. After a steep descent through a forest, you begin the final climb through the lovely Val Salata and reach Sennes.

Challenge: 17,5 km / 13 mi, 6 h, 990 m ascent,  830 m descent

Day 4:    Sennes loop via Sennes Plateau (7.2 km / 4,5 mi)

The walk today takes you through plateaus and valleys above the tree line surrounded by mountain vistas. This short hike can be extended with a climb to the Muntejela de Senes peak (2887m). The view from the peak is stunning.

Challenge: 2.5 hours, 7.2 km / 4,5 mi, 345m ascent, 330m descent

Day 5:    From Rifugio Sennes to Rifugio Fanes via Lago de Foses (19.7 km / 12 mi)

You first follow part of the broad Dolomite Höhenweg trail, at roughly constant elevation. Then further over rocky trails and a stepped descent through the forest. Following a zig-zag path, you climb back up above the tree line. You then descend via an unpaved road, and reach Pederü. Many visitors enter the Fanes-Sennes Park here. There follows a long climb to rifugio Fanes, partially over an unpaved road, partially along mountain trails.

Challenge: 6-7 hours, 19.7 km / 12 mi, 1000m ascent, 900m descent

Day 6:    Roundtrip via Ju della Crusc or via Bivacco della Pace (17 km / 10,5 mi)

Today you can choose between two alternative all-day hikes.

OPTION A: L’Ciaval loop via de Ju de la Crusc

This all-day route takes you up a steep, wooded hillside to the bare, rocky expanse of the Fanes plateau. At Ju della Crusc you reach the edge of the plateau, where you enjoy dramatic vistas over the valley below. You can optionally extend the hike with a climb up to the L'Ciaval peak.

OPTION B: Fanes loop via Bivacco alla Pace

As alternative, you can choose the walk via Bivacco della Pace. This hike begins as a comfortable walk along an unpaved road winding through pleasant alpine scenery, and then climbs steeply above the tree line to the dramatic Monte Castello outcrop. The track was originally a First World War military road bringing supplies to the front, which was at Monte Castello.

Challenge: 6.5/ 6 hours, 17.3 - 16.6 km / 11 mi - 10,5 mi, 1.069/1235m ascent, 1.076/1235m descent

After that, you continue over a wide path through the village of Wengen/ La Valle to Crusc de Rit, with beautiful views on the way. You then descend through forests and meadows to San Vigilio di Marebbe.

Challenge: 7/ 6 hours, 21 - 19 km / 13 - 12 mi, 650m ascent, 1450m descent
