ROUTE

Start: Strasbourg       Finish: Colmar

Day 1: Arrival in Strasbourg
Day 2: From Strasbourg to Obernai (37 km / 23 mi)
Day 3: From Obernai to Riquewihr (49 km / 30,5 mi)
Day 4: From Riquewihr to Colmar (36 km / 22mi)
Day 5: Departure from Colmar

Day 1:    Arrival in Strasbourg

Travel to Strasbourg and check in at your hotel, then venture out into the achingly picturesque city centre with its intriguing ‘border-town’ history. Step along narrow cobbled lanes and snap a portrait of lovely half-timbered houses, painted stone gates and secluded courtyards.

Day 2:    From Strasbourg to Obernai (37 km / 23 mi)

Cycle out of Strasbourg on a pleasant well-marked bike path, riding southwest past story-book villages, elegant castles and vast vineyards on the 'Route du Vin'. Afterwards, replenish your energy with a tasty bit of Alsatian cuisine in charming Obernai.

Challenge: 37 km / 23 mi, 270 m ascent, 224 m descent

Day 3:    From Obernai to Riquewihr (49 km / 30,5 mi)

Strike out on the route to Riquewihr, a medieval town in the very heart of Alsatian wine country. This wonderful wine-making village is understandably ranked on the list of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' (the most beautiful villages in France), where fanciful rainbow-coloured architecture and world-famous wines have provided inspiration for a well-deserved nickname: 'The Pearl of Alsace'.

Challenge: 49 km / 30,5 mi, 495 m ascent, 395 m descent

Day 4:    From Riquewihr to Colmar (36 km / 22mi)

Visit the tremendous fortified town of Turckheim, with imposing walls and intricate half-timbered façades so typical of the Alsace. If you’re feeling extra energetic, make your route more challenging and ride an extra loop past not one, not two, but five medieval castles! Sailing along through scenic wine villages such as Kaysersberg, your day ends on the flower-filled lanes of brightly-coloured Colmar.

Challenge: 36 km / 22 mi, 271 m ascent, 361 m descent

Day 5:    Departure from Colmar

Your self-guided cycling trip comes to an end after breakfast. Extra nights can be booked to visit Colmar’s exquisite town centre.

REVIEWS

01-10-2023

We especially enjoyed Obernai and Riquewihr. Colmar was very touristy, and the hotel Beausejour was very comfortable but a fairly long walk to the centre ville.

The booking process and communication were very good. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery through the vineyards and towns.
