Day 1: Arrival in La Orotava

Day 1:    Arrival in La Orotava

Flight to Tenerife North airport and arrival at the first accommodation in La Orotava, with its lovely historical quarter centered around the Plaza de la Constitución. For early arrivals, time to take a stroll along the steep lanes of this picturesque village. 1.5 hours.

Challenge: Travel to Tenerife.

Day 2:    Orotava Valley (13 km / 8 mi)

Today begins with a short drive to Aguamansa, where you encounter the wooded slopes of El Teide. Here you begin a circular walk through the lush vegetation of the Valle de Orotava. Lovely views of the entire valley, several options to make your walk longer or shorter according to preference.

Challenge: 13 km / 8 mi, 965 m ascent and descent, 6 hrs. 

Villages along the way: Aguamansa

Day 3:    Onward to Garachico (8 - 15 km / 5 - 9.5 mi)

Today you drive to your next accommodation, situated in the coastal town of Garachico, with lava fields and laurel woods along the way. Several walks to choose from, as you explore the hilly terrain near Punta de Teno, a true paradise on Tenerife's westernmost cape. Admire the intriguing mix of flora, here at "land's end" or take a rest day to relax at the beach.

Challenge:

Teno Alto: 8 - 11 - 15 km / 5 - 7 - 9.5 mi, 400 / 500 m ascent and descent, 3.5 / 4.5 / 5.5 hrs.

Las Portelas: 7 - 10 km / 4.5 - 6 mi, 525 / 650 m ascent and descent, 4 / 5 hrs.

Villages along the way: La Montañeta, Erjos and Silos

Day 4:    Masca Gorge / Circular via Chinyero (7 - 11 km / 4.5 - 7 mi)

The Masca gorge is one of the loveliest spots on the island. The circular walk through the Monte Chinyero Natural Reserve traverses intriguing volcanic landscapes with some open views to the rounded summit of Volcan Chinyero and some sections offering a nice cool shade.

Challenge: 

Chinyero: 7 km / 4.5 mi, 205 / 355 m ascent, 205 / 355 m descent, 2.5 / 3.5 hrs

Masca Gorge: 5.5 - 11 km / 3.5 - 7 mi, 600 m ascent and descent, 2 / 5 hrs.

Villages along the way: Teno Alto, Buenavista

Day 5:    Las Cañadas del Teide (4.5 - 16 km / 3 - 10 mi)

Today you drive towards the National Park and the impressive volcanic peak of El Teide (3718 m). Once you check in at the Parador located at the foot of the peak, you will have the rest of the day to enjoy your impressive surroundings, with 2 walks to choose from: a short, circular route around Roques de Garcia, visiting these colorful rock formations, or a demanding but rewarding ascent to Guajara (2717 m), the second highest peak on Tenerife.

Challenge:

Roques de García: 4.5 km / 3 mi, 250 m ascent and descent, 1.5 hrs.

Pico Guajara: 16 km / 10 mi, 500 m ascent and descent, 5 hrs.

Villages along the way: Cañadas del Teide

Day 6:    From Las Cañadas to La Laguna (2.5 - 5 km / 1,5 - 3 mi)

Today you get better acquainted with El Teide and its volcanic surroundings, wandering through the bizarre landscape of Las Cañadas. Again, several options: do one of the routes from yesterday, or opt for a stroll round Santa Cruz or La Laguna. 

Challenge: 2.5 - 5 km / 1,5 - 3 mi, 20 / 100 m ascent and descent, 1 h / 2 hrs.

Villages along the way: Las Cañadas, Santa Cruz, La Laguna

Day 7:    Northern Tenerife (9 km / 11.5 km)

Today you again have two routes to choose from, after driving to the north side of the island. Both walking and driving itineraries offer lovely views. On foot, you follow coastal paths across deep gorges, going past picturesque farming villages, man-made terraces and laurel woods. Exquisite and very varied landscapes in the prettiest part of Tenerife.

Challenge: 9 / 11.5 km, 650 / 400 m ascent and descent, 4.5 hrs.

Villages along the way: Taganana, Afur and Taborno

Day 8:    End of arrangement

Your walking program comes to an end today after breakfast. Departure from La Laguna.

  • **Any visitor can take the cable car up to the vista point 500 m below the summit. If you plan to walk to the top, you'll need a permit from the National Park (request online).
